Using the War on Terrorism to Fight the Cultural Wars

Copyright by James R Carlson

Recently, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, said, “Domestic violent extremism poses the most lethal and persistent terrorism-related threat to our country today.” This statement should send shock waves through anyone who is involved in the Culture Wars. Hidden behind the rhetoric of homeland defense is a potential turn on the War on Terror against American citizens. No longer is the focus on fighting Islamic Terrorism; now, the focus is on violent extremism where someone who disagrees with the ideology of the current administration is a potential violent extremist. The tools of government are becoming weaponized to fight against people like Christian Conservatives in favor of people who share a radicalized liberal agenda.

The Biden administration’s Department of Homeland Security (and other federal agencies) recently introduced a program to fight against ideologically motivated extremism. Domestic Violent Extremism (DVE) is a term derived from the Obama/Biden administration’s CVE (countering violent extremism) agenda of 2011. Under the Bush administration, the fight was against Islamic (statist) terrorism and not Muslim (religious) terrorism; Obama thought the distinction was too vague and changed it to CVE. Under the Trump administration CVE again focused on Islamic terrorism. But under the Biden administration, the focus is turning towards the cultural wars where radicalized liberals in power in Washington are focusing attention on their adversaries who share a different ideology from their own.

Domestic Violent Extremism (DVE) is considered a threat when someone with an ideology (formerly Islamic) becomes radicalized to use violent extremism to achieve their goals. Home Grown Violent Extremism (HVE), however, is when someone shares an ideology that did not originate from American soil (formerly Islamic Terrorism). Both DVEs and HVEs represent a follow on to the former War on Terrorism that was once called Countering/Combatting Violent Extremism (CVE). Now, CVEs are replaced by DVEs and HVEs.

The path towards becoming a violent extremism is said to begin when someone with an ideology is ‘radicalized’ to the point where violence is an option for political gain; this is the purpose behind the Obama initiative against CVEs. However, the Brennan Center for Justice, a left-wing think tank, debunked the idea of CVEs when they exposed the ‘path to radicalization’ as a fraud. They said that it makes intuitive sense but not scientific sense in that there is no supportive data for it. Violent extremists don’t always have an ideology and those who have an ideology don’t always become violent extremists. However, the current administration didn’t get this memo and they continues down a path that will lead ‘cancel culture’ to attack more people who share an ideology different from their own radicalized version of liberalism.

Federal employees were recently asked to retake their oath of office to serve; as if their first oath was of no value or needed a booster shot. While most of us have an integrity that is not vacuous, various officials have insisted that we need to reaffirm our commitment to the U.S. Constitution, the Rule of Law, and Ethics. However, glaringly absent from this list we’re supposed to commit to is Morality! There isn’t any difference between ethos (ethics) and mores (morality) except the context in which it comes from or where it is applied. They are essentially one and the same thing! Therefore, I will continue with my original commitment to uphold the U.S. Constitution, the Rule of Law, Morals, and Ethics (modern liberals/libertarians cannot say this with integrity). Welcome to the Cultural Wars.

Christian Conservatives stand for the principles of morality before almost anything else. Doing what is right to achieve what is right is central to our core values. And it is because of this that we opposed the lack of a moral compass on the part of America’s liberals (and social liberal libertarians). Hence, the Cultural Wars have been fought at least since the 1970s over abortion, homosexuality (sodomy), and recreational drug abuse. While we stand for moral values in our culture and our laws; modern liberals do not. This is why they are not asking us to reaffirm our commitment to Morality because they have no desire to commit to them; they are radicalized liberals.

As I have been blogging for a few years, I’ve presented information showing how the Militant Homosexual Lobby (MHL) has become a DVE and how Black Lives Matter (BLM) has become an HVE [Russian Collusion - BLM & Biden; Winning or Losing - The Dream; Militant Homosexual Lobby]. Without reviewing these reports for brevity’s sake, it is safe to say that the Biden Administration has been supporting these groups both before he came into office as our President and after. In fact, while we may dismiss the notion of ‘radicalization’ as unscientific, we may continue to use their own rhetoric (as they do) and demonstrate that Mr. Biden and his Administration has succeeded this ‘path to radicalization’ and are active supporters of DVEs and HVEs. But it is highly unlikely that this radicalized liberal administration will focus on their own extremisms as they use them to attack others in the Cultural Wars that they label as extremists.

Safe it is to say that we need to be careful in our activities as Christian Conservatives. We should always recall that Romans 12.21 was given to us to avoid the pitfalls that early Christians were not aware of within the Roman Empire. Satan, et al, used any opposition to the ‘state’ to persecute people and throw people into the ‘lion’s den’ at the Colosseum. We must continue to persevere with our solid moral compass by doing what is right to achieve what is right.

So let me be clear,

I, James R Carlson, do (did) solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well; and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."

PS Should we ask the ACLU to cancel that last sentence? Just saying.
